Day 6 – Shap to Orton

Shap to Orton is a relatively short 13.4 km but still hard walking with total climbing 661m longest climb 110m longest descent 122m.

It was a fairly uneventful walk with not a lot of sites on the way. The most major milestone was crossing the M6 Motorway. The sound of vehicles after being in remote areas for so long was quite strange.

The walk was largely through open fields (moors) that were covered in purple heather followed by a walk on a road for a few kilometres before coming into Orton.

While waiting for our bags to arrive (for the first time we beat our bags into our accommodation) Mal and Morag surprised us by arriving from Edinburgh for the night. We adjourned to Kennedy’s Chocolate Factory for a very yummy hot chocolate. For dinner, Kath and Dean joined us for dinner to ensure a very enjoyable evening. The food was very nice – Sylvia opted for two entrees - feta and tiny tom salad and spicy prawns (shrimp) and Frank had lamb with a raspberry sauce.
