Fiesta del Pescador and River Casano

On Sunday we had decided to do the River Casano walk as it was supposed to offer quite a bit of shade and the weather was quite warm. But when we got to Cangas de Onis we found that it was the Fiesta del Pescador (festival of the fishermen?) and so we stayed around to watch the fly fishing competition, listen to a couple of bands (one had “bagpipes”!) and visit the cheese market. We bought cheese (the guys fancied a particularly smelly blue vein), olives, and dried fruit for “dinner” as we’d had a large lunch.

After we had eaten lunch we went and did the walk as planned. The scenery was lovely but it was pretty warm and as it was the weekend all the potential swimming spots were already taken by local families. However, Frank found us a nice spot on the way back where we could cool our feet and to be honest the water was a bit nippy for swimming!
